Areas of Expertise

Individual Therapy

I work with individuals across different ages and stages of life, from emerging adulthood through older age. Often I first meet people during periods of transitions or change, or when facing questions related to identity, purpose, and creating a meaningful life.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in relational psychoanalysis, ego psychology, attachment theory, developmental science, and a trauma-informed lens that includes an embodied perspective. I strive to consider social, cultural, political, historical, gender, and racial/ethnic contexts. We will work collaboratively to define an approach that is either targeted, open-ended, or a combination.

Reproductive Mental Health

In addition to therapy with people considering, mourning, or embarking on the journey to parenthood, I collaborate with fertility practices to provided recommended or required psychoeducational or assessment services for those building families through donor gametes or surrogacy. This includes working with single parents and LGBTQIA+ individuals and families. *With psypact authorization, I am sometimes able to coordinate these services for people working with donors or gestational carriers across state lines.

EMDR

This trauma-focused intervention is an evidence-based experiential approach to addressing recent or past traumatic events or experiences. It can be more focussed or time-limited than other approaches. It builds on individualized mindfulness activities, and often does not require going into detail about traumatic experiences. It can be particularly impactful in the perinatal period.

Supervision and Consultation

I have been providing supervision and consultation to peers and therapists in training for over a decade. I can work with you to deepen your work, clarify your approach, or build your professional identity.

Locations

I currently practice via HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform and have limited in-person availability.

My office is located in the Flatiron area of New York City, close to most major subway lines, and a 15 minute walk from Grand Central Station, Penn Station and Union Square

I am licensed as a psychologist in New York and Connecticut, and have authority to practice interjurisdicational telepsychology (APIT) under the PSYPACT commission. This means that I have select availability to provide telehealth services to people located in PSYPACT-participating states: https://psypact.org/mpage/psypactmap

Fees

Fees are service and circumstance dependent — I have set fees for reproductive/3rd party consultations and assessments that align with colleagues doing the same work.

Therapy and supervision fees are determined collaboratively.

In my private practice, I am not in-network with any insurance carriers (OON). I will provide you with documentation in case you can get reimbursed by your carrier, or paid fees can count towards your deductible. Some people choose to pay out of pocket to avoid the formal diagnosis and scrutiny that many insurance carriers require. Please note that some insurance companies might erroneously list me on their panels because of my hospital-based work.

When deciding on whether to engage in OON services, here are some questions to ask your insurance carrier (please note: carriers often change coverage without notice):

  • Does my plan include out-of-network benefits for mental health care? What about for telehealth outpatient psychotherapy?”

  • “Do I have a deductible for out-of-network mental health services? If yes, what is the remaining amount I will have to pay before my health plan starts to reimburse me for the fees that I pay to my therapist?”

  • “What is the maximum amount my plan will reimburse for CPT service code 90834 or 90837 with a Psychologist?” Or: “What is the maximum allowed amount for mental health service codes 90834 and 90837 with a psychologist, and what percentage of the maximum allowed amount will my plan pay?” (This percentage of the maximum allowed amount is the amount you would receive as reimbursement.)
